Mixing Small Business With Personal/Moral views
Hello my lovelies.
Ramadan Kareem to you all.
Now, this post is not such a pretty ‘wedding’ post. I am going there, yes, I am going to go there. I recently posted a status on the Bride Club ME facebook page, which simply read: “this is not a political page, but we would like our fans to know that we stand in solidarity with GAZA and we stand for PEACE across the Middle East.’freepalestine freegaza”
I knew from the moment I published the status, that I would be subject to some random attacks from either side, I was prepared for it. Why? Because mixing business with personal thoughts always attracts attack. Why do you think so many celebrities and businesses keep quiet when it comes to political issues? Because they are scared to stand up, for fear of losing fans, being misunderstood, losing business. Well, whilst I understand their fears, I was prepared to put myself out there and say what I felt I should stay as a small business owner in the Middle East.
I have very, very strong personal opinions on the Israel/Gaza conflict, I am well educated in the history of the conflict and the complexity of the issue. My views are balanced, however, I refuse to stand by ideally while international human rights laws are being violated – I could not care less about race or religion – First and foremost, I am a humanitarian.
One person ignorantly suggested that I may have used the freepalestine hashtag for the purpose of advertising. Now let’s look at this from a business perspective shall we? We target ‘ENGAGED COUPLES” in the UAE, not political keyboard warriors, angry teenagers and political activists, although many of the ppl ‘liking’ our comment were simply compassionate ppl who agree that the aggressive attacks should stop. Why would we put ourselves out there for judgment for the sake of ‘advertising’ to people who are not our target audience in any way, shape or form – If anything, my comment would have the adverse effect.
Secondly I have pro-Israel people attacking me. My friends, I would have the same stance if Palestine were viciously attacking a group of locked in Jews/Israelis with advanced weaponry, an army and support from the USA. I do not agree with attacks from either side….any innocent death is a death too much in my opinion, what I am protesting is the breaking of international human rights laws and the targeting of press, children, women, hospitals and schools – SIMPLE! Nothing more, nothing less.
The comment that hurt me most was from someone who basically has the same belief as me, just think before you speak hunny, we are reading from the same book – Don’t turn something innocent into something sinister.
I am an opinionated person, with strong moral values and I am still learning in business, but I will never hide or be told to ‘shut up’ when people are being slaughtered in front of the world, I can take the attacks and abuse, albeit from only 1 or 2 people. We cannot protest in public here, and so, I decided to make a simple stand to a wider audience– As small as it may be, I did it, I will not remove it and I thank all of you who supported me and understood my sentiments without ignorant judgment.
Now that I have said that…..I will continue to bring you all what you love… Wedding features, lol
Lots of love to you all xxx
