Tentative wedding entertainment ideas!

Hello friends and fellow brides to be,

So, since we are getting married in Sri Lanka, it only makes sense that we add a little touch of  Srilankan tradition into the mix. Our wedding will be a fusion of quintessential English traditions and a blend of exotic SriLankan ambience. Perfect really, since we are marrying in Galle, a beautiful area in Sri Lanka known for its colonial architecture.

I am also an equal blend of Sri Lankan and English and would really like to  incorporate that in our wedding, and no, I have not forgotten my fiancée, who is part Italian/Jewish and English, I will be blogging about how we will incorporate some Italian traditions into our wedding later on.

Our entertainment will be the standard DJ, lots of old school classics such as the Jackson 5 right up to modern day dance floor bangers,  not sure if we will opt for a live band as yet, since we are also having live entertainment courtesy of the Kandyan fire eaters and dancers of Sri Lanka.

Kandyan Dance is a dance form that originated in the area called Kandy of the Central hills region in Sri Lanka. But today it has been widespread to other parts of the country.

According to legend, the Indian shamans came to the island upon the request of a king who was suffering from a mysterious illness. The king was said to be suffering from recurring dream in which a leopard directing its longue towards the king. Which is believed as a black magic of “Kuweni” the first wife of the king “Vijaya”. After the performance of the Kohomba Kankariya the illness vanished, and many natives adopted the dance. – Source Wiki

Next we have chosen the hair raising Kandyan fire eaters, if anything, this will be pure visual tantalization and its always pretty entertaining seeing someone burn their tongues off :S…lol.

To top off the entertainment, we will have some beautiful fireworks to mark the end of a beautiful day and start of an exciting new journey together.

I think once the formal stuff is out of the way, I really want people to just have fun, be entertained and have a night to remember, after all, most of them would have travelled over 12 hours to be with us and spent a lot of their hard earned money to do so. We are also looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the evening too.
